Jan Leishman is a tapestry weaver who has been exhibiting her work since graduating from South West TAFE with a Diploma of Art (Tapestry Weaving) in 2007.
Working with thread and cloth has been part of her life since childhood, but coalesced into weaving after seeing the incredible beauty and imagery of woven tapestries in Europe and later the stunning contemporary works at Melbourne’s Australian Tapestry Workshop. She weaves on an upright loom at her home studio using bobbins, mixing colours either on the bobbin itself or through weaving techniques. Inspired by whatever catches her eye, she finds colours and shapes are the essence of her works. Leishman’s tapestries have been shown at the Ararat and Warrnambool Regional Art Galleries and other Western District venues. Her work has also been exhibited at the Australian Tapestry Workshop, in Canberra, Sydney, New Zealand, USA and group exhibitions with Ballarat’s SHAC and ‘Sheilas’. EM: [email protected] |
