Soldiers Hill Artist Collective - SHAC
David O’Callaghan
Art, like life, is a journey where luck dips into self-evolution, compromise, experimentation and reinvention. As a youngster O’Callaghan wanted to study archaeology yet in his late teens and early twenties he trained in art, education and design before forging a career as a graphic designer and illustrator. In his thirties O’Callaghan migrated from corporate design to the then fledgling home computer games industry before moving into tertiary education and a decade-long stint with three tertiary institutions. He then returned to corporate design. Along the journey he completed additional post-graduate art studies while continually producing fine art. In his mid-fifties he finally became an archaeologist. Ballarat has been home for three decades. O’Callaghan has been a Ballarat Arts Foundation board member and a now-and-again art judge. He’s been a finalist at Ballarat’s Flanagan Art Prize and was recently a FOSH costumed goldfield’s artist at Sovereign Hill. |
