Soldiers Hill Artist Collective SHAC comprises a group of artists of varied art methods who live in the historic district of Soldiers Hill, Ballarat. The collective is the brainchild of Lynne Makings an artist who was struck by the many local artists she met whilst she and her husband Ken were walking out and about in the district.
SHAC is a diverse group of practising artists who all live in Soldiers Hill. Our objective is to maintain an open and inclusive collective that is focused on promoting local arts and artists, whilst reinforcing the positive social benefit of the arts within our immediate community. We are committed to maintaining a sustainable framework for art projects within Soldiers Hill and creating a suburb that is both externally and internally identified as a place where creative diversity is valued and promoted as a community virtue. (S. Fredericks).
