I focus on landscape and nature-based art. I have explored this domain through a variety of media and contemporary conceptual approaches, which are essentially grounded in drawing and painting. I was recently awarded a postgraduate research degree in visual arts for a thesis in the form of a solo exhibition and treatise. This asked how contemporary landscape art can acknowledge climate change and environmental degradation, an inquiry that emerged out of the tragedy of the Black Summer fires. It was embedded in contemporary eco-centric thought and art and included a body of artworks which I characterised as ‘earthscapes’. My present work continues with works on paper, using charcoal and earth pigments, to seek new and interesting ways of drawing imaginative attention to landscape as an ecological, living entity and habitat, above and below ground. I have exhibited in several Melbourne galleries and regional venues over time, including for some years in Metropolis Gallery in Geelong (now closed) and the Backspace and Post Office Galleries in Ballarat. I have been a finalist in the Lethbridge, Omnia, Flanagan and John Villiers art prizes. I have been supported at the postgraduate level by an RTP Commonwealth government grant, and also by an Arts Council Resilience grant.
