Soldiers Hill Artist Collective - SHAC

Julie Burleigh (Julie B Ceramics) is a ceramic artist whose hand-built stoneware practice spans functional objects and decorative works. She finds the not-quite-symmetrical nature of handbuilding essential to the uniqueness of each piece. With a current focus on pastel colours, her work is optimistic, distinctive, and often playful. Alongside her functional ware, Julie's sculptural practice explores ideas of world-building and imagined interiors, drawing on science fiction, architecture, and lived experience. These works transform familiar domestic and institutional spaces into contemplative, slightly fantastical environments. Recently, Julie has been translating three-dimensional objects into two-dimensional framed tile works, investigating how perception shifts when sculptural forms are flattened. Julie's work has been exhibited at Mr Kitly, Little Woods Gallery, The Dolls House, Mailbox Art Space, the City Library, Craft Victoria, Neon Parlour and OK Violet. All of Julie's work is exclusively hand-built (no wheelwork) in her studio in Ballarat, on Wadawurrung country.
