April Welfare My Painting has always been my first passion, though I have been involved in multidisciplinary practices since finishing art school. I was a student at Ballarat College of Advanced Education (now Federation University), studying Fine Arts, majoring in painting for 3 years and taking a minor in printmaking. Following on from Art school, I completed a course studying Video production at the Photography Studios College, Melbourne.
My journey has led to travel, having a family and a diverse career that has remained deeply rooted in the arts. This year, I am focusing on my arts practice full time. I have recently had a joint exhibition, creating a new body of work based on my childhood connection to the rural landscape and reflecting a strong sense of place. The paintings from the exhibition ‘Found Landscapes’ celebrate the beauty found in a solid and reliable, yet ever-changing environment. I feel comfortable working on paper and canvas, and sway between the figurative and abstract. I love both Plein air painting and being in my studio to explore and experiment with different mediums, always curious about new possibilities. EM: [email protected] IN: amaxinewelfare |
